- Snacks and water will be available to all volunteers during their shift but please feel free to bring your own water bottle/snacks.
Reach out to Izzy Nelson with any questions/concerns!
As of 1/29 - Our greatest volunteer needs are:
- Friday Plunge Registration: Note this is a computer heavy and customer service centered role.
- Friday Night Race Logistics: We need help bringing the 5k to life!
Event Details:
- Logistics emails were sent Monday 2/2 and an automatic reminder will be sent 2 days before your shift.
- Please reach out to Izzy Nelson if you need that email or have questions about it.
- Below are general logistics but be sure to check your email as some shifts have specific details:
- PARKING: Free street parking is limited, so carpooling is recommended whenever possible. Paid parking spots are available in city garages at 31st, 25th, and 19th Streets. We recommend the 31st garage ($10).
- ARRIVAL: Please arrive at the Hilton Virginia Beach Oceanfront (3001 Atlantic Avenue) at the designated start time of your shift.
- CHECK-IN: All volunteers should report to the Special Olympics check-in table located in the Hilton main lobby on Level one of the hotel for further instructions. You will be checked in and given a credential so please stop here first.
- WHAT TO WEAR: We do not provide t-shirts for volunteers. IT WILL BE COLD OUTSIDE! Please dress appropriately for the weather, especially for beach operations, race logistics, drink tent and cool school volunteers. The tent is heated but it still gets chilly.
- The race is a glow theme & the main plunge theme is Hawaiian if you are feeling creative!
- FOOD AND DRINK: We will have water and Wawa pretzels available to volunteers, however, if you would like any other food or beverages, you are welcome to bring them yourself.
- TEXT UPDATES: We will use the cellphone you entered when registering to send out last minute or emergency updates via text.
PRE-PLUNGE PARTY: Looking for something to do on Friday night (2/6)? Come join us in the big white tent on the beach for a free Pre-Plunge Party! There will be drinks from Tito’s, Costal Cocktails and Commonwealth, plus snacks and merchandise for sale, a DJ and more!
