Choosing a Team Captain The important role of the captain is team leadership. Cohesion is essential for team success and the captain plays an integral role in this. The team captain must motivate other team members, resolve disputes, help to integrate new team members, and inform the team of updated information. There are two methods of choosing a team captain. Selection can be made by the corporate team management, or team captains can be chosen by a vote among the other team mates. The second method is most popular. Captains usually have some previous experience with fundraising and team building. Teams also can have alternate captains. They fill in when the captain is absent and perform many of the same leadership and team building roles as the actual captain.
