Run. Plunge. Play. Repeat.
What is it? The Polar Plunge® Winter Festival, Feb. 7-8, 2014, is Special Olympics Virginia’s largest fundraiser, during which individuals and teams, alongside Special Olympics athletes, take the plunge into Virginia Beach's icy Atlantic Ocean in the height of winter! Other crowd favorites include Friday’s Cool School Challenge for middle and high school students, the Friday Night Plunge Party, Saturday’s 5K, the Pee Wee Plunge for kids 10 and under, and the Saturday Night Beach Bash.
Why do it? Since its inception 21 years ago, more than 36,000 plungers have raised more than $8.5 million for Special Olympics Virginia. Whether you run, plunge or party – or do all three – you’ll be helping us build a bigger, better and COOLER community for our athletes and volunteers.
Don’t have what it takes? Come watch! If taking an icy dip isn’t for you, then come be a fan of fun as you watch folks Run, Plunge and Play for a great cause. The Polar Plunge® Winter Festival is open to the public and also features musical entertainment, food, the Boogie Down the Boardwalk Costume Parade, ice sculptures by Ice Art Inc., a gigantic sand sculpture by Team Sandtastic, vendor displays, children’s activities and more. There is no fee to view the Plunge, but a $5 donation is required to access the heated tent and festival area on the beach. For more, check out the Polar Plunge schedule.
